One day,
a little child was speaking to his flower.
You know, one day I will grow up, and as my father did,
I will take you out of the ground,
I’ll give you to a girl that I like
And that makes me sad
I believe that day
will be the happiest
and the loneliest day of my life.
She will smile
She will hug me,
and maybe kiss me,
The smile on her face
will light up the darkest night
But then I will return home
I will go visit you in my garden,
And…
and you will not be there.
In your place will be a little hole in the ground
filled with ants and other bugs
trying to get the rest of your roots,
And that will probably be the saddest night of my life…
While the boy was crying,
the flower looked up at him and replied.
Every morning when the sun rises
And warms the little droplets of rain on my petals,
I will look up to your door,
waiting to see your face.
waiting for you to come and say,
‘Good morning’ to me.
And that will happen every morning, and years will go by,
and yes, you will grow up.
I will grow old,
I will slowly wither under the passing of the years,
And yes,
I will feel sad and happy at the same time.
So you see, my love,
Don’t cry.
I’ve served my purpose, and my purpose has served you.
You will take me from my place when the time is right,
And I will pass away, my love, to that girl you told me about.
And she will take care of me.
And every morning when she looks at me,
She will see you, and more than this,
She will see my love for you.
But she knows, my dear, that I’m just a flower,
And she will know that you will love her just like you loved me.
And after years pass by,
She will take my seeds,
And together with you,
Will plant them in your garden.
After years, your children will take care of my children,
So the cycle of love will move on and become stronger.
You see, my love, when God created flowers,
He did this so all his love for all creation will be at your doorsteps and in your garden,
And everywhere your sight will reach.
So don’t be sad.
That day will not be the loneliest day of your life.
That day will be the happiest day of our lives.
